Seminar on trade union press

Warsaw, 1st - 3rd June 2009

The first Polish-French seminar was held in the headquarters of the ZNP in Warsaw from 1st to 3rd June and was devoted to the trade union press on the contemporary media market. Two editorial teams representing the Polish magazine “Głos Nauczycielski” (Teachers’ Voice) and the French magazine „L’US” (comprising a few periodicals) shared their achievements and exchanged experiences.

Among the participants there were a few journalists representing two editorial teams: of the ZNP magazine „Głos Nauczycielski” and of „L’US” published by the French Secondary Education Trade Union (SNES) being one of the biggest teachers’ trade unions in France. The French delegation comprised Odile Cordelier, ETUCE Vice-President and SNES International Secretary as well as Matthieu Leiritz, editor in chief of the French magazine published by the SNES.

The seminar entitled: “The role and tasks of trade union magazines on the contemporary media market. Tasks of trade union magazines towards trade union members and the environment” aimed to:

  • establish cooperation between the journalists of „L’US” and „Głos Nauczycielski”
  • present actions taken by the two editorial teams
  • present titles, their history and web sites
  • discuss the role of trade union press on the contemporary media market
  • compare the two magazines’ concepts
  • sign an agreement on cooperation between the two editorial teams

The seminar ended in signing an agreement on cooperation between the two editorial teams, which would entail a free of charge exchange of press materials. French guests were received by the ZNP President, Sławomir Broniarz.

The project of Polish-French cooperation includes two study visits paid by the representatives of the two magazines’ editorial teams. One of them took place in Warsaw from 1st to 3rd June. The other will be held at the end of September in Paris. The seminar in Warsaw was organised under the slogan of : „The role and tasks of trade union magazines on the contemporary media market.
